The Mississippi Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation held its’ annual Board of Directors meeting on Saturday, May 31st at the Mississippi Crafts Center. The theme of the meeting and 10th Anniversary Celebration was “Ten Years of Improving Lives While Searching for a Cure.” The membership approved the candidates submitted by the nominating committee for election to the Board of Directors as follows:

Highlights of the year were reviewed noting that the Mississippi Chapter raised $560,000 at the 2007 Walk to Cure Diabetes and $375,000 at the 2008 Hope Gala, Imagine the Cure. The Mississippi Chapter has contributed over $6.8 million to fund research to cure diabetes since it’s inception.
The Chapter honored outgoing President, Frank Farmer, for his service to the Board of Directors. Dale Hubbard was recognized as the Betsy Ditto Volunteer of the Year for his outstanding volunteerism.
More than 85% of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. Since its’ founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.16 billion million to diabetes research. Diabetes and its’ complications affect more than 24 million people in the U.S.; as many as 3 million Americans may have type 1 diabetes, the most severe form of the disease.
